Deputies shoot woman allegedly armed with a gun after chase in Larimer County

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Deputies shot a woman who was allegedly armed with a gun after an early morning chase through Larimer County, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Tuesday at around 1:30 a.m., the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy spotted a vehicle on Highway 402 and East Frontage Road, looked through their records and found the owner, an adult woman, had a warrant and a revoked license.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy activated his lights and sirens in order to initiate a traffic stop, but the woman refused to pull over. Several deputies pursued the woman who eluded them for several miles through west Loveland.

The sheriff’s office said deputies deployed tire spikes near Highway 402 and Lincoln Avenue, about four and a half miles away from where deputies initially spotted the vehicle, but the woman drove away at speeds over 100 mph.

The woman finally stopped driving at Wheatridge Court and County Road 18, about 14 miles from where deputies deployed tire spikes. That is when deputies said she exited her car armed with a gun.

According to the sheriff’s office, two deputies fired their weapons and struck the woman. Law enforcement on scene rendered aid, and the woman was then taken to a local hospital. The sheriff’s office did not provide an update on her condition as of 5 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said no bystanders or law enforcement personnel were injured.

The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is now investigating. The Loveland Police Department will release further information as it becomes available.
