DENVER ( KDVR ) — The Old Farmer’s Almanac released its 2024-2025 winter forecasts , and compared to previous years, this coming winter is predicted to be fairly uneventful.

This past winter, parts of the season were downright cold and snowy. At times, temperatures hit below zero and Colorado saw some major snowstorms . While the Almanac predicts another cold and snowy winter in Colorado, it shouldn’t be too bad across the rest of the country.

Farmers’ Almanac predicts ‘downright frigid’ fall with ‘lots of fall flakes’

“This winter, temperatures will be up and snowfall down throughout most of the United States,” reports Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor-in-chief. “While there will still be plenty of chilly temperatures and snow for most slopes, the high heating costs associated with the season shouldn’t hit so hard. We’re predicting a temperate, uneventful winter—potentially a welcome reprieve from the extremes of recent years.”

In the High Plains, the Almanac said it would be cold and snowy, with the northern parts of the region, like Billings, Montana and Bismarck, North Dakota, to be warmer than normal. Meanwhile, it’s expected to be colder than usual in the southern parts of the region, like Amarillo, Texas.

Denver lies on the western edge of the High Plains, closer to the southern end.

The coldest periods will be in early and mid-January and into early to late February, according to the Almanac. This is generally par for the course when looking at historical data, with the coldest dates often being around the time of the National Western Stock Show , which just announced ticket sales this week.

As far as snow goes, the Almanac said that participation will be normal with no predicted extremes. People in Colorado can expect snowfall to be near to above normal, with the snowiest periods in mid-November, mid to late January and late February. This differs from historical data, which typically has March as the snowiest month of the year in Denver.
