KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead near the Old Hyde Park neighborhood in Kansas City, Mo. on Wednesday morning.
KCPD has identified the victim in this case as 22-year-old Adrian Terry.
Prior to the shooting, the Kansas City Fire Department reported that crews were responding to a medical call at an apartment complex near the 400 block of East Armour Boulevard when a shooting occurred either outside or inside the building’s lobby.
KCFD said that, while they were on the scene, crews heard the gunshots and sent a request out for emergency aid.
According to KCFD, one victim was treated and taken to a hospital in critical condition. However, KCPD confirmed later that the victim was killed and the case is now being treated as homicide.
In a separate report, KCPD provided more context to the events leading up to the shooting and after the shooting.
According to the report, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of East Armour Boulevard at about 11:30 a.m. regarding a shooting call.
Upon arrival, a man was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency responders then took the man to a hospital where he reportedly died from his injuries.
KCPD said responding officers received information from witnesses about a potential suspect, leading them to search the area.
Shortly after, a man was found a short distance away from the crime scene and was taken into custody. Police said he was detained and placed under a 24-hour investigative hold.
Preliminary investigations revealed that there was a “confrontation” between the victim and the suspect, which ultimately led to the shooting.
Police confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide and that detectives are on the scene to gather witness statements and evidence.
KCPD has not released the names of the victim or the suspect.
