32 arrested, at least 27 suspects still wanted in central Indiana drug bust

(WXIN/WTTV) — Central Indiana police crews have arrested 32 people during a large drug warrant roundup throughout Johnson County and Marion County. Police are still looking to arrest 32 other suspects with active arrest warrants.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said that police crews from a total of nine departments executed over 50 arrest and search warrants Wednesday throughout central Indiana. The operation is part of what authorities called a months-long “proactive investigation.”

In total, 25 of the suspects that police were looking to arrest were found and taken into custody. Authorities said seven other people were arrested on scene and are now also being held on drug charges. Police are still actively looking to arrest 32 other drug suspects in the area.

Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said Wednesday that his department made 22 arrests on Wednesday, while arrest information shows a total of 32 arrested from all agencies. The sheriff said they are still looking to arrest 32 more suspects.

“I had the opportunity to speak with several residents living near individuals involved in drug trafficking. Many expressed relief and optimism, hopeful that peace would soon be restored to their neighborhoods,” Burgess said. “It is disheartening to see good, hardworking citizens forced to endure criminal activities in their communities. It is our duty as law enforcement to restore peace and ensure the safety of these areas.”

Members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department, Bargersville Police Department, Edinburgh Police Department, Greenwood Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, White River Fire Department and the Bargersville Fire Department (Fire Service SWAT Medics) all participated in the drug busts.

“The individuals arrested today have chosen a path of unlawful behavior,” Burgess said. “The Sheriff’s Office, local Police Chiefs, Town Marshals, and the Prosecutor of Johnson County have made it clear: criminals are not welcome here. If you engage in illegal activities, you will be arrested, you will be charged, and you will go to jail.”
