Fatal Shelbyville crash: Man arrested for driving under influence causing death

SHELBYVILLE, IND. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday morning, leaving one dead.

According to the SCSD, the crash occurred around 8:12 a.m. on Morristown Road, just north of Rafferty Road. Police said a northbound-traveling vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane, striking a passenger car head-on. The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead on-scene.

While the SCSD said the name of the deceased is still waiting to be released by the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, police have identified the name of the suspect who caused the crash. 28-year-old Trevor Wilkins has been charged with driving under the influence causing death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
