The first round of the one-two punch event is hitting across western Iowa this morning. Then the focus will be across southwest Iowa for severe thunderstorm development by this evening with threats for hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a couple of isolated tornadoes.

A Florida physician and her granddaughter were sentenced to federal prison for charges of conspiracy to distribute drugs. In July 2020, the Drug Enforcement Administration restricted Janet Pettyjohn, DO, from prescribing opioids due to complaints about the manner in which she prescribed controlled substances, according to an Aug. 1 release from the Justice Department. Despite this, she continued to prescribe opioids in violation of the order until the restrictions were lifted in March 2021.

36-year-old Stacy Torian-Batts was seen publicly intoxicated at Walmart on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard on August 3rd. The store employees reported seeing a woman and a child walking through the parking lot. They added that the woman was pulling on random car door handles. When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with Batts and her five-year-old daughter. Officers observed Batts pulling on the handles of a vehicle, and when asked what she was doing, Batts stated that she was looking for her keys.

Last week, a 32-year-old was arrested on trafficking charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and abandoning the vehicle with a child in the passenger seat. According to local detectives, the vehicle the suspect was driving was registered to NFL football player Tyreek Hill.
