Powell Baseball Player Set To Return After Suffering Life-Threatening Rattlesnake Bite
Powell resident Jhett Schwahn, 19, is thankful he always wears long pants when he hikes. Earlier this month, it might’ve saved his life from a rattlesnake bite. On July 8, Schwahn and his girlfriend were hiking down from the summit of 8,123-foot Heart Mountain in northwest Wyoming when Schwahn was suddenly bitten by a rattlesnake in the late afternoon hours. He heard no rattle from the reptile that pounced out from a bush near the trail.
Cross-country cyclist pauses in Lovell en route to Washington
The energy flows from Suzie Williamson like a rushing mountain stream. But even an energetic veteran bicyclist riding from coast to coast needs a break every now and then. That most recent break in the retired special education teacher and U.S. Army veteran’s cross-country trek occurred in Lovell Thursday as she stopped to rest and recuperate.
Elder brothers take top two spots at Byron Days Fun Run
About 40 runners headed toward the Sand Hills north of Byron, then returned to town Saturday morning for the annual Byron Days Fun Run. Organized by Brandon and Serena Hessenthaler, the event featured both a mile and a five-kilometer race. Runners were invited to run in attire representing their favorite decade.
Mustangs fall to Powell, clobber Riverton
Sweeps were the order of the day for the Lovell Mustangs last week as they were swept by rival Powell Thursday but came back strong to do the same to Riverton Friday. The 2-2 split leaves the Mustangs at 19-22-2 heading into the Class A West District Tournament July 19-21 in Green River.

Green River “C” team with state win, Spartans fall, Knights play today
Things got off to a good start for the Green River “C” American Legion baseball team at the “C” state tournament in Lovell. The 15 and under team won its opening game 4-1 over Douglas. Green River will now face Laramie this evening. Laramie was a 3-1 first game winner over Lovell. The double-elimination, eight-team tournament will run through Monday if necessary.
Lundberg team captures LHS golf team tournament
A team with two former Lovell High School golf coaches and a former competitor captured the LHS golf team fundraising tournament Saturday at the Foster Gulch Golf Course. Capturing the crown in gross scoring (without using handicaps) was the team of Craig Lundberg, Adessa Lundberg, Danny Wolvington and Charlie Marchant, who shot a 61 at the tournament. Wolvington and Craig Lundberg have coached the LHS team in years past, and Adessa Lundberg golfed for the Lovell team.
