Balloonists injured in crash landing in east Casper Saturday
CASPER, Wyo. — A balloonist was injured Saturday after being ejected from the basket during a descent over east Casper during the annual Casper Balloon Roundup. Casper Police Department Spokesperson Amber Freestone said the event was reported around 7 a.m. Saturday. Two female passengers were aboard, and the craft was reportedly trying to land in an underinflated state.

Bike to Work Day on Wednesday!
JACKSON, Wyo. — Put the pedal to the pathway during the Friends of Pathways, Bike To Work Day on Wednesday, July 17. For those in need of extra motivation, bikers will be rewarded with coffee, muffins and high fives from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m., according to Friends of Pathways. Free breakfast treats will be given out at four different locations throughout the valley to those who bike, walk or bus to work. Locations for breakfast include the Healthy Being Juicery, Snake River Brewing, Stilson parking lot and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s General Store.

School District No. 1 to Approve Budget Wednesday
ROCK SPRINGS – The Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees will consider approving the 2024-2025 budget Wednesday during its monthly board meeting. According to meeting documents, the board will vote on a $92.3 million budget for the fiscal year. The funding available for the budget’s expenditures is $86.5 million, which creates a $5.8 million funding gap that will be filled with cash carryovers and creating a balanced budget. According to the budget documents, the district plans for an anticipated $94.7 million budget for the next fiscal year, which consists of $84.8 million in funding and a funding gap of $9.9 million being filled with cash carryovers.

Council Considers Coffeen Avenue Rezone Ordinance
The Sheridan City Council held their second regular business meeting of July Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details. Following a public hearing on an ordinance to rezone property at 2308 Coffeen Avenue from R-4 to B-1, the City Council gave first reading approval of ordinance 2285. City Planner Kelly Schroeder said the properties to the east, south, and west are currently zoned B-1, while the property to the north is zoned B-2. The ordinance must be approved two more times by the City Council before the rezone takes effect. The City Council also received updates from City Arborist Clark Van Hoosier and the general manager of the Antelope Butte Foundation.

East 7th Street to close July 17
GILLETTE, Wyo. — An alleyway reconstruction project will close a section of East 7th Street near Twin Spruce Junior High this week, according to the City of Gillette. The closure will affect East 7th Street from South Kendrick Avenue to South Gillette Avenue. It is expected to last from July 17 to July 19 while a contractor works to repair a burst 8-inch sewer pipe, per the city.
