FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire in Freeport Saturday morning, injuring a 17-year-old.

Police said they were alerted to the shooting by the Sound Thinking (formerly ShotSpotter) detection system.

Officers arrived on the scene, in the area of Frank Street and Chicago Avenue, around 12:01 a.m, and found the victim in a car that had bullet damage. He was taken to FHN hospital for treatment, and later discharged, authorities said.

Police said the incident was “not a random act of violence,” and is asking anyone with information on the crime to call 815-235-8222 in an effort to apprehend the assailant.
