FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Multiple people were displaced and two pets were saved from what the Fresno Fire Department called a “worst case scenario” fire Sunday evening.

Firefighters say around 7:30 p.m. they responded to the area of Vagedes and Hedges avenues where they found a mobile home engulfed in flames.

“This is one of those worst-case scenarios where you have a motor home that was parked between two houses,” said Batallion Chief Dan Omeara.

Fire investigators say the motor home fire was believed to have been ignited by a grill, eventually catching the two nearby homes on fire.

“When you have a big fire between two houses that are fairly close together and then the wind kicks up— it’s a tremendous fuel load between the two houses… we had the wind that was laying the fire down right on top of the other house,” Omeara said.

Crews say substantial damage was caused to the two homes while the motor home was a complete loss. As a result, four adults and a child were displaced, but no injuries were reported.

During their firefight, firefighters say a dog was saved from the fire as well as a cat after crews performed CPR.

Fresno Fire says with the Fourth of July around the corner that residents should take extra precaution when firing up the grill.
