    Mobile home fire in Galax leaves one dead

    A fire Sunday morning in Galax, Virginia, claimed the life of a 60-year-old male, according to the Galax Fire Department.

    Galax Fire Department was toned at 7:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 26 for a structure fire on Spring Trace Lane in Galax.

    “Arriving units found smoke showing from a singlewide mobile home with neighbors indicating one person was trapped inside. Firefighters initiated rescue efforts removing one 60-year-old male from the structure,” Galax Fire officials reported.

    “Life saving measures were immediately initiated. AirCare Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist was requested to do a scene landing. Despite the extensive efforts of Carroll County Fire/Rescue paramedics and the Air Care flight crew, the victim did not survive his injuries.”

    Galax firefighters completed extinguishing the blaze and cleared the scene in 90 minutes.

    The cause was determined to have been improperly discarded smoking materials.

    “Prayers for the family as well as the first responders please,” Galax Fire Department officials said.

    They did not release the identity of the victim.
