The driver who fatally struck a Children's Hospital of Philadelphia doctor while she was bicycling last week was speeding while drunk behind the wheel, the district attorney's office said Thursday.Dr. Barbara Friedes was killed at 18th and Spruce streets on July 17.The suspect, 68-year-old Michael Vahey, had a blood alcohol concentration of .16, District Attorney Larry Krasner said, which is double the legal limit of .08.He was traveling over 50 miles per hour in an area with a speed limit of 25 mph, Krasner said. Multiple black bear sightings reported near Ringing Rocks campground in Upper Bucks County
Multiple people have posted on Facebook about seeing bears in Upper Black Eddy this week, near Ringing Rocks Family Campground and Colonial Woods Family Camping Resort. A bear cub was spotted Tuesday evening on Marienstein Road between Lake Warren and Lonely Cottage roads, about a mile from each campground. A black bear cub and an adult were seen in the same area, on Woodland Drive, on Sunday. Someone else spotted a bear on nearby Lonely Cottage Road the same night.

24 July 2024- On 7/20/2024 Newville Police discovered a mattress that was discarded at the Community Aid Bin on West Street. Through investigation it was determined an out of state truck driver stopped in the parking lot and discarded the mattress on 7/18/2024. Subsequently, Trivon D. Williams (47) of Dallas, TX was charged with one count of Scattering Rubbish.

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Toll booths will soon be a thing of the past on the eastern and northeastern portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.Officials spoke more about the upcoming switch to "open road tolling" on July 24.The cashless, free-flowing mode of collecting tolls eliminates the need for separate toll lanes and booths. All you'll need to do is drive under a collecting gantry and have your EZ Pass mounted if you pay that way."You don't have to do anything different, your tolls will still be collected, sent to you in mail if you're toll-by-plate or deducted from your EZ Pass account," said Craig Shuey, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's chief operating officer. The commission says the new approach will help keep traffic moving — and make the highway safer.Open road tolling will take effect on Jan. 5, 2025 on all parts of the turnpike east of Reading and on the Northeast Extension.PennDOT wants you to make sure you mount your EZ Pass tag in your vehicle and have all your information including your vehicle and credit card updated.Toll booths for the remainder of the PA Turnpike, from Reading and westward, will be eliminated in 2027.
