While Dixie County may be the 58th most populated county in Florida out of 67, this progressing area is still wrestling with issues surrounding dining experiences, according to recent inspections by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

In the last 90 days, only four restaurants in the county passed inspections on the first visit, while five establishments failed their initial inspections. Three of those eateries topped the list for most violations cited in Dixie County.

    What happened during the inspections?

Leading the pack is Who Dat Bar & Grill at 7004 Sw Hwy 358 in Steinhatchee, which was cited for 15 infractions, including two high-priority violations, during an inspection on March 28.

The restaurant, which has a 4.0-star rating from over 300 Google reviews, was found to have live, small flying insects in the kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area, and bar area. A follow-up inspection was recommended after an administrative complaint.

Taste of Dixie Diner, an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant located at 16840 Se Hwy 19 in Cross City, was not far behind, with 13 violations, including two high-priority infractions related to live and small flying insects.

Despite its 4.4-star rating on Google from 1,239 reviews, the popular local restaurant also requires a follow-up inspection.

A customer named James Baynard was delighted after a recent visit:

It has been always amazing even since I've been a youngin thank you for what you do in our Tri-County area.

Rounding out the three on the list is Salt Creek Restaurant, which accumulated 12 violations during an inspection on April 10.

    • Who Dat Bar & Grille - 15 violations (March 28, 2024)
    • Taste of Dixie Diner LLC - 13 violations (March 26, 2024)
    • Salt Creek Restaurant - 12 violations (April 10, 2024)

As Dixie County continues to grow, both state and local health officials will be monitoring these establishments closely to ensure they meet the necessary standards for safe and sanitary dining experiences.
