A local Florida City mother was taken into custody on Tuesday after allegedly striking her son with a broomstick during a dispute about his oversized pants, resulting in a serious injury, authorities report

According to Local 10 News, Shernice Gibbs, 42, became embroiled in an argument with her son as he prepared for school. The disagreement quickly escalated, leading Gibbs to grab a broomstick and strike her son on his left wrist, causing a deep cut, the report said.

Police noted that the victim’s wrist was “bleeding profusely” following the incident.

Several commenters supported the mother's action, with one poster named Olivia claiming:

If everything the mother claims, then mama served him everything he deserved. I hope the judge has mercy on the mama.

It was understood that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and transported the victim to Homestead Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, in her statement to investigators, Gibbs claimed she was getting her children ready for school when the argument began over her son’s pants. She alleged that he responded with profanity and then punched her multiple times in the face, causing noticeable swelling.

Notably, Local 10 News acquired Gibbs’ mugshot earlier this week, which showed no visible bruising or swelling.

Gibbs stated she tried to push him away as he allegedly wrapped his hands around her neck, leading her to scratch his face, which resulted in a small abrasion.

In what she described as a reaction to his actions, Gibbs admitted to striking him with the broomstick, according to police documents.

As a result of the incident, Gibbs was arrested and faces charges of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.

As of Tuesday afternoon, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and her bond has yet to be determined.
