MH Grad returns to teach others to fly
Pilot Madelyn Smith on left with Gerald Gaige of Leading Edge Aviation on right visited KTLO to discuss aviation careers for young people. It took one flight from the Flippin airport for Madelyn Smith to know what she wanted to do for her career. Now this Mountain Home grad is back home in the Twin Lakes area teaching the joys of flying to others.While most young people her age are still trying to learn to navigate the roadways on the ground Smith was flying the skies receiving her private pilot certificate at the age of 17. After earning her diploma from Mountain Home Career Academies (MHCA) in 2021 she went on to Addison Texas to earn her instrument rating and became certified to pilot commercial flights. After becoming a certified flight instructor she took a position as a flight instructor for Ozarka College in Melbourne as well as for the Leading Edge Aviation Foundation at Baxter County Airport.
Michele Linehan announces run for Mountain Home City Council, Ward 4 Position 1
Linehan, who describes herself as a fiscal conservative, sees a need for more transparency in city spending. “I see too much money being funneled into projects that could be done in a more fiscally conservative manner. I also see some spending that I frankly don’t think the majority of Mountain Home citizens approve of,” she stated.
Lockeroom dominates Paragould in home finale
The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team was able to dominate its final home outing of 2024. The Lockeroom routed Paragould 12-2 Sunday at Cooper Park. After Paragould took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning, Mountain Home answered with six runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Jackson Corp. The Lockeroom put up five more in the next inning to invoke the mercy rule.

The heat wave will last one more day before we get a break in the high temperatures. A heat advisory will be in effect for southeast Kansas, most of Oklahoma, southern Missouri and all of Arkansas today. The advisories start between 11 and 1 p.m. and will last until 8 p.m. Coffeyville is expected to see a high of 99 with a heat index up to 109 today.
