EAST LANSING ― It has been a historic few years in Gaylord-area high school sports, complete with state championships, all-state performances and many more accomplishments that have put a spotlight on the small Northern Michigan city.
With the amount of college-bound athletes coming out of the Class of 2024 for Gaylord, St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston, it's no secret where this recent success came from; it's also no secret just how much the three-area high schools will miss the just-graduated senior class.
Before they say their final goodbyes, one more GHS star will get a chance to put on a Blue Devil jersey one final time.
Gaylord soccer's Claire Gorno was recently selected to play in the first-ever Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game taking place in East Lansing on Saturday, July 20.
"I am super excited to play, I am excited to represent not only Gaylord but the Big North Conference as well," said Gorno.

Gorno was an all-state honoree for the third straight season after a successful senior campaign, switching from her regular forward position to midfield in 2024 to help her team create more scoring opportunities. Her final numbers stacked up against the best in the BNC, tallying eight goals and 16 assists, earning her a first-team all-conference selection.
She wrapped her high school career with 49 total goals and 85 assists.

Gorno is signed to play soccer at Albion College , an NCAA Division III school located in Albion, Mich, one of 17 members of the GHS's most recent graduating class who signed a letter of intent to play sports in college.
The all-star games will be held at the East Lansing Soccer Complex with four total games scheduled, two for the boys and two for the girls. The girls games are scheduled for noon and 4 p.m., while the boys games will be at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
