Syracuse’s QB Room Gets More Interesting With New Face
There’s no debating who will be under center for SU’s first matchup of the year on August 31st against Ohio, that will be Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord barring injury. Behind him though, things get a lot more interesting for who will be the second guy called off the bench if needed. Last season, it was Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, who when called upon didn’t give Orange fans any hope for the future. But a new face has entered the room who can compete for that spot. That being, Florida Atlantic transfer Michael Johnson Jr.
The non-conference game that could be a trap for Syracuse football

The Key To SU’s Offensive Success
Over the past few years, Syracuse’s offense has been dynamic. Garrett Shrader’s elusiveness gave the Orange the ability to strike from the air, on the ground with a star running back or with QB1 scrambling. That took a lot of the pressure off the receiving corps. This year, with Kyle McCord under center that won’t be the case. He isn’t just not mobile, McCord isn’t even close to a threat to run. Remember, sacks do count as rushing yards in college football, but still, he ended with negative yards last season.
Syracuse Orange Football: Player Development Should Come First
Not since the days of Paul Pasqualoni has the Syracuse Orange had a coach with a winning record. From Greg Robinson (.213) to Doug Marrone (.500), to Scott Schaffer (.378), to Dino Babers (.476) no coach has proved they can turn Syracuse into a consistent competitor. The Orange have found it tough to find a coach whose tenure lasts more than ~3.5 years and this season they’ll be starting over with new head coach Fran Brown.

Red Wings blown out by Syracuse, 13-2, in first game after break
The Rochester Red Wings started their first series after the All-Star break with a loss on Friday, falling at the Syracuse Mets, 13-2, as Syracuse scored 13 unanswered runs. The Wings (51-41 overall, 13-6 in second half, one game up in the International League) got on the board early, as right fielder Travis Blankenhorn drove in Darren Baker on a one-out sacrifice fly to put Rochester ahead, 1-0. It was all Syracuse from that point on, however, scoring four in the bottom of the first before putting up nine runs- only one of them earned- in a fifth inning that saw the Wings commit two of their three errors.
