Taco Bell customer tries to pay with fake money, SC cops say. Then they search his car

A man tried paying for fast food with fake cash before he was caught with drugs, South Carolina police say.

The 30-year-old man faces multiple charges, including including uttering counterfeit currency, in the June 13 incident in Georgetown, according to the city’s police department.

Officers were called to a Taco Bell about someone trying to use two bogus $20 bills, police said. Officers pulled the man over as he was trying to leave the restaurant.

A license check revealed he was driving on a suspended license, leading to his arrest, according to police. Officers searched his car and found four more counterfeit $20 bills and methamphetamine, police said.

Investigators linked the man to a separate counterfeiting incident on June 10 at Georgetown Ice Company, where he was accused of passing a fake $20 at the business. Another arrest warrant was issued in that case, police said.

“Investigators will be referring this case to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation into the origin of the counterfeit bills as this incident falls within their jurisdiction,” according to Georgetown police.

The man was booked into jail on charges of driving under suspension, possession of methamphetamine and two counts of uttering counterfeit currency, police said.

Georgetown is about a 40-mile drive southwest from Myrtle Beach.
