West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.
GMG bond referendum informational meetings set for July 30, Aug. 8 in Garwin
GARWIN – The Green Mountain-Garwin Community School District will host two community informational meetings as part of a possible November 2024 school bond referendum. The first meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, at the GMG Secondary building in the upper gym in Garwin, while the second meeting is set for Thursday, August 8, in the lower gym. Both sessions will begin at 7 p.m.

How Perry Chamber is Assisting with Food Insecurity in the State
Food insecurity is prevalent throughout the state of Iowa, and the Perry Chamber is doing its best to support people within the community. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio food insecurity is nothing new to the world, but notices that the issue is expanding. She says that the Perry Food Pantry is still seeing record numbers of people showing up to get food. Pasutti reminds residents that the weekly Farmer’s Markets offer assistance with food insecurity.

PD: Woman Steals West Des Moines Squad Car, Leads Cops On Chase
(West Des Moines, IA) -- A woman's facing charges after police say she stole a West Des Moines Police squad car and led police on a high-speed chase. Police say the chase started near South 60th Street and Village View Drive with a mental health call around 2 a.m. The woman was able to get into the squad car and drive off. The car's location was tracked using GPS.
'It's just not safe': Family calls on Iowa DOT to make road changes following death of grandfather
ADEL, Iowa — An Adel family is calling for change along Highway 169 after their grandfather passed away on Sunday from being in a car accident. According to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Jack Chapman, 87, was stopped on N Avenue near the intersection of Common Place. His family said he was on his way to Domino's to get pizza with his wife of 64 years.

Polk County K-9 to receive new body armor in memory of fallen DMPD K-9
DES MOINES, Iowa — A Polk County K-9 now has its own body armor, thanks to a donation in memory of a Des Moines police K-9. K-9 Bax received the present from a nonprofit group whose mission is to protect K-9s. Vested Interest in K-9s is giving the department a protective vest for Bax. It will be embroidered with "In Memory of K-9 Hobbs."
