Country Meat and Potatoes with Gravy

Indulge in a hearty and comforting meal with my Country Meat and Potatoes with Gravy recipe. Whether you opt for pork steaks, beef steaks, venison steaks, lamb chops, or chicken, this dish is guaranteed to satisfy your cravings for a down-home country meal.

    Ingredients:

    • 6 to 8 steaks (pork, beef, venison, lamb, or chicken pieces)
    • 4 large potatoes, peeled and chunked
    • Approximately 4 tablespoons of melted butter (2 for the potatoes and gravy mixture and 2 for browning the meat)
    • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
    • 2 cups of milk
    • 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt, plus additional to taste
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons of freshly ground black pepper, plus additional to taste
    • Water to boil the potatoes.

    Instructions:

Begin by washing, peeling, and cutting the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a stew pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until almost fork-tender, then drain.

In a bowl, combine the milk and flour thoroughly.

Return the potatoes to the stove on low heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter, and then pour in the milk and flour mixture. Cook for a minute or two until slightly thickened.

Brown the steaks in a skillet with 2 tablespoons of melted butter, seasoning with salt and pepper. The cooking time will vary. Transfer the steaks to the pot with the potatoes.

Pour the gravy over the meat and potatoes in the stew pot. Stir, cover, and simmer on low heat for 35 to 45 minutes, adding liquid as needed. The meat and potatoes should be fork-tender when done.

Enjoy the delicious flavors of this comforting country dish. Serve and savor every bite.
