(WBRE – PA Live) — The 3rd Annual Shine Like Susan 5k is back! The group has made some changes to the course to make it more participant friendly (like not running up the giant hill!!!). This 5K is taking place in memory of Susan Burke who we lost in July 2022. From a loving friend, to a motivating coach, Susan was always there for those who needed her. The committee hopes to see you there and all donations are greatly appreciated!
Over 150 Bikes Being Given Away to Kids at Big Diamond Speedway on Friday Night
Over 150 bikes will be given away Friday Night by the Getz family to kids attending Big Diamond Speedway races. It will be “Topless” night this Friday, July 19th at Big Diamond Speedway. That’s right, the Quandel Concrete Modifieds will be going topless racing 30 laps for a $7,000 first place prize. Not to be left out, the Uss Achey, Inc 602 Crate Sportsman will also be Topless and racing in a 20-lap feature for some extra cash with $1,200 going to the winner on Dukmen Enterprises Night. Rounding out the big racing card will be the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners along with the return of the Big Creek Concrete Rookies who will also go topless.

Luzerne County man sentencing for killing his father
A Luzerne County man was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison Tuesday after pleading no contest to homicide charges. 32 year old Kevin Novak faced the prospect of life behind bars if convicted at trial in the slaying of his father, 70-year-old Richard Novak, who was gunned down at their home in Nanticoke in 2022. Novak did not address the court prior to the Judge sentencing him to 12-30 years in state prison for the crime.
