Commissioner: phone call to suggest Supt. candidate was innocuous; school board members call it undue pressure
A seemingly innocuous phone call that Alamance County commissioner chairman John Paisley, Jr. made to school board chairman Sandy Ellington-Graves on Thursday, July 11, to suggest the name of someone that the board might want to consider for the vacant superintendent’s position – appears to have since ruffled the feathers of several other school board members.

Removal of a plastic bollard, placed in an alleyway thought to be public, results in charges against mayor’s husband in Graham. Graham businessman Chuck Talley, who is the husband of Graham mayor Jennifer Talley, has been charged with misdemeanor destruction of real property: namely four metal bolts that had been used to secure a plastic bollard erected in the middle of an alleyway in the downtown business district.
ABSS to freeze teacher supplements in order to save $$ in face of $2.4M deficit
Alamance-Burlington school system employees will have their county-funded supplements frozen at their 2023-24 pay rates, in an effort to erase a $2.4 million budget deficit that ABSS began the 2024-25 fiscal year with on July 1, the school system’s administration confirmed for school board members during a special-called work session Monday afternoon.

Tatum brings Lt. Governor to Caswell County
On Monday, July 8, Caswell GOP Chairman Cody Tatum, hosted a fundraiser for Lt. Governor and Candidate for Governor, Mark Robinson, at the Yanceyville Municipal Building. Hillsborough Skate Spot Opens to Public; Official Ceremony Set for September
Only a few months after construction began, Hillsborough’s new skate spot is able to get worn in by skateboarders. The town government shared on Tuesday the latest amenity to the community and Cates Creek Park is open for use. The opening culminates several years of planning and work for Hillsborough’s first skateboarding facility, with the final design and construction done by the 5th Pocket Skateparks company. Construction on the project, which borders part of the park’s multi-use athletic field, began in May.
