    Glendale music venue fills weekend with live shows

    Reopened under new management, Westside Blues & Jazz at 17045 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, is now running a full calendar of live performances, including four later this week.

    Reservations are only held until the start of the music. At least 12 to 14 seats are held on a first-come, first-served basis.The performers are:

    • Str8Up Band plays from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23. This an energetic dance band with five lead vocalists performing for audiences from Phoenix and Tempe to Southern California and Colorado. Each vocalist specializes in a different genre of music.
    • 911 Dangerous Band takes the stage from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Friday, May 24. Jerome and the boys are back, playing old school R&B, soul and even Top40. This local favorite also is introducing to Westside, their new Texas vocalist: Sha’Vonne.
    • That Girl Band (Rock & Roll) brings the thunder from 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday May 25. That Girl Band is a four piece all female rock band from Arizona with powerful vocals and musicianship.
    • Soultown Train is back from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, May 26. Soul Town Train plays the songs and honors the artists who made Soul Train the soundtrack of America. DeAndra Johnson’s stage presence and vocals have entertained Arizona for years. Donny Montgomery brings the smooth, groovy voice. Shaun Johnson’s vocals and grooving bass keep the crowds moving. Jim Porter, Chris Strong and Kent Moody add a veteran presence to the band.
