Juneteenth crafts abound at Glendale libraries next week

Visitors to all four Glendale public libraries next week can celebrate Juneteenth through crafts.

Grab & Go Craft Kits are available Monday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 19 all day at each branch.

Tweens from ages 5 through 11 can join the celebration by grabbing a Juneteenth craft kit while they last.

June 19, known as “Juneteenth,” is a special day and national holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. People also call it Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day.

Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War. For more than 150 years, African American communities across the country have observed this holiday in a blend of two words — “June” and “nineteenth” — with its origins dating back to 1865.
