West Virginia man sentenced to 170 months for drug and firearms charges

CLARKSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man has been sentenced for drug and firearms charges.

According to U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld, Duncan Currie Canter, 30, of Glenville, was sentenced to 170 months in federal prison for methamphetamine and firearms convictions.

Court documents and statements revealed that Canter collaborated with others to distribute methamphetamine in Gilmer County.

During a traffic stop, authorities found a semi-automatic pistol in his vehicle.

At the time, Canter was on supervised release from a previous methamphetamine conviction in the Northern District of West Virginia and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

Following the traffic stop, probation officers discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at Canter’s home.

Canter’s extensive criminal history, including drug trafficking, led to his classification and sentencing as a career offender.

In addition to the 170 months, he will serve 21 months for violating his supervised release status.

Following his prison term, Canter will undergo three years of supervised release.
