U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will allocate $149.7 million to support five key projects in California aimed at building zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) charging and fueling infrastructure. The funding, provided through the Federal Highway Administration’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program, was established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The largest share of the funding, $102.4 million, will go to the California Department of Transportation for the West Coast Truck Charging and Fueling Corridor Project. This initiative will deploy charging and hydrogen fueling stations for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles along 2,500 miles of critical freight corridors spanning California, Oregon, and Washington. The project will facilitate the emissions-free movement of goods through major ports, freight centers, and agricultural regions on the West Coast.

“Decarbonizing the transportation and goods movement sectors is essential for fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health in communities along busy corridors,” said Senator Padilla. “These investments will help slash vehicle emissions, create good-paying green jobs, and provide cleaner air for millions of Californians, including disadvantaged, tribal, and low-income communities.”
