Residents in the Eureka area are experiencing a temporary reprieve from the heat as cooler temperatures and breezy winds have settled in, thanks to a deep low-pressure system moving through the region. Afternoon highs across the interior have dropped to the mid to upper 80s, offering a welcome break. While some light drizzle is possible along the coast this evening, the chances of significant rainfall are minimal.

However, this cooldown won't last long. High pressure is expected to rebuild by Wednesday, bringing much hotter conditions, particularly in the southern parts of the area. Temperatures are likely to soar over 100 degrees, with some locations experiencing isolated Major Heat Risk. Coastal areas may see clearer skies and warmer afternoons due to increased northerly winds and weak offshore flow.

Looking ahead, the heat is not expected to be long-lasting, with models indicating a possible return of cooler, wetter conditions by next Sunday, with a 30 to 60% chance of rain around September 9th.
