Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, at approximately 10:28 P.M. on westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 157 outside of Wendell in Gooding County.

A 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by an unidentified adult male, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-84 at milepost 157 when the Chevrolet collided, head-on, with a 2023 Volvo semi-truck, driven by a 36-year-old male, with a 35-year-old female passenger, both from North Highlands, California.

The Chevrolet overturned and came to rest in the median. The semi-truck drove through the median, across the eastbound lanes, through a right-a-way fence before coming to a rest on Frontage Road.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The occupants of the semi were wearing their seatbelts and were not transported.

Traffic was reduced to one lane, for approximately four hours, to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

Idaho State Police were assisted with the investigation by the Gooding County Sheriff's Office, Gooding County Rural Fire, Gooding County EMS and the Jerome Police Department.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
