Bloomington closes Rail Trail encampments, adds homelessness coordinator in 2025 budget
Another homeless encampment has been cleared in Bloomington, this time along the Rail Trail south of Country Club Drive and North of Gordon Pike. At a news conference in the first week of August, Bloomington mayor Kerry Thomson said that the encampments along the Rail Trail, which had 30-day notices posted towards early July, were still on course for removal “in the next couple of weeks.”

Colts to launch year two of Girls High School Flag Football League
The Colts created the league in 2023 with eight high school teams from Indianapolis and South Bend, Ind. This year, it will expand to 27 teams with five divisions across the state. The teams will compete in a three-week regular season, beginning with the Indy 1 Division on Aug. 24. All other divisions will begin play on Sept. 7.

Martinsville soccer gets off on the right foot
MARTINSVILLE — The Martinsville boys soccer team had a successful season last year that ended abruptly in the IHSAA Sectional tournament. After defeating Terre Haute North in the first round 2-0, Martinsville fell to Bloomington South 2-0 to end their season with an 11-6-2 record and a second-place finish in the tough Mid-State Conference with a record of 4-1-2. With a lot of starters from last season returning this year under coach Willy Spina, the Artesians are hopeful to build on last year’s progress. In their season opener at home against Terre Haute North last Saturday, Martinsville repeated the same outcome in October by winning 2-0.
