GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A person was taken into custody after fleeing from deputies in a vehicle officers suspected may have been involved in a hit-and-run, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, dispatch got a report that a person was in Grand Haven driving a vehicle that had “front end damage” and telling people that the vehicle had been stolen, deputies say. The sheriff’s office said that vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that had fled the scene of a hit-and-run that happened an hour earlier near Robbins Road and Lakeshore Avenue in Grand Haven Township.

Officers from three different agencies responded to Grand Haven looking for the suspect vehicle. A deputy from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office spotted it near US-31 and Jackson Street and followed it north onto US-31.

The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over but it fled onto E Savidge Street through Spring Lake Village, where police boxed the vehicle in and took the driver into custody. He was lodged into the Ottawa County Youth Home on several felony charges, deputies said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
