Cohasset approves new shop storage building

    2024-05-01

A new shop storage building was approved at Tuesday’s Cohasset City Council meeting to keep additional equipment out of the weather and to provide for less congestion in current City spaces.

“We’ve talked about putting up a cold storage building for Public Works,” Cohasset Mayor Andy MacDonell said. “It will help alleviate storage issues with the Fire Department too.”

“We do have things sitting outside, that shouldn’t be sitting outside,” Councilor Terry Bartz stated.

“We are just trying to look toward the future,” Mayor MacDonell said.

“I appreciate the time,” Councilor Kevin Ott stated. “I think you have an effect group that works well. And is innovative. What keeps coming back in my mind. Can we live without. And I think we can.”

“We can always use more room. There is room right now, but it is congested. I am for it,” Councilor Kevin Tinquist said.

“I am indifferent,” Councilor Andy Haarklau said. “The value is there, and I would hate to not go about doing it, and have this same discussion a year from now. To my understanding it would be a dirt floor, uninsulated building. I would be for it due to the dollar value.”

“I just feel we need one,” Bartz said, especially in regard to storing trailers.

Bartz made a motion to put a building up, Tinquist seconded. Council approved with everyone for, Ott against.

Council also clarified it is in the budget for this expense. At the time of publication, it was not known what the cost of the building would be.
