Red Oak council discusses upcoming recodification process
(Red Oak) -- Red Oak officials are exploring ways to ensure that the city's ordinances remain current and consistent. Meeting in regular session Monday night, the Red Oak City Council discussed the recodification process and the possibility of utilizing an online service to continuously update certain ordinances as needed within the city code. Red Oak Mayor Shawnna Silvius says the discussion has arisen due to the last major recodification process taking place in 2019. The Mayor says some of the more significant changes pertain to building and zoning codes, as more zoning and variance requests continue to be submitted to the city.
Cass County Supervisors Approve ARPA Funding Requests
(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved ARPA Funds for the Anita Food Pantry parking lot improvements in the amount of $15,000. Tim Miller said they received some grant money and other funding to go toward this parking lot project. He said they are still working out the details of the paving.

Local Residents Oppose Wind farm Project
Dozens of residents from Lafayette, Grant, Iowa and Dane counties gathered Thursday to discuss a proposed wind farm that would span across Southwest Wisconsin. Several people across the Driftless Area say they are opposed to ‘Uplands Wind,’ a wind farm project that could lead to the installation of over 200 wind turbines across the area. According to a report, a representative with the developer Pattern Energy that the $1 billion project will support the local economy and provide a new revenue source for landowners. The facility is projected to provide on average $2.4 million per year to local communities, totaling $72 million over the first 30 years. They added that they are engaged in a ‘comprehensive community outreach process, fostering open dialogue with community members, local leaders, and stakeholders to share information and gather input. Several neighbors expressed their concerns at a meeting held in the Belmont Convention Center Thursday. Organizers titled the presentation ‘Preserving and Protecting Our Rural Legacies.’ Some attendees say that if the project is approved, they believe families will leave the region.

Atlantic Area Chamber Ambassadors Ribbon Cutting of Moviehouse & Event Center
The new business is located above Brymons Interiors. Jennifer Miller, the owner of Brymons Interiors & Event Center, purchased the 412 Chestnut building six years ago from the Masons. The Masons previously rented the top levels of the building for meetings, but due to the elevator being out of operation, they found alternative meeting arrangements. When the movie theater left Downtown Atlantic, Jennifer saw the need for a new one and started renovating the space in March of this year with the help of her daughter Cambrie. They cleaned, painted, remodeled, and installed equipment.
Cass County 4-H Alum Receive State 4-H Scholarship Support
(Atlantic, Iowa) – Two recent graduates of the Cass County 4-H program have received scholarships through the Iowa 4-H Foundation to continue their education. One hundred and one Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at over $106,000 were awarded as a part of the Foundation’s scholarship recognition ceremony. Awards were presented Sunday, July 14th at the Gateway Hotel in Ames. Over 450 applications were submitted, and scholarships were awarded to recipients from 56 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences. Congratulations to local 4-H member Parker Brock and alumni Emily Plagman for receiving scholarships from the Iowa 4-H Foundation!
