Eastern Iowans Face Steep Property Tax Increases Amid Rising Costs

If you were on the receiving end of a statement, like the one I received, your probably more than a little irked at how your land value could drop, while the value of your home increased anywhere from $10-30K in just a years' time. Funny how that works isn't it?
USDA and the Heartland Regional Food Business Center Make Available Over $3.7 Million to Farm and Food Businesses in First Round of Business Builder Grants
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Heartland Regional Food Business Center (RFBC) have announced the availability of more than $3.7 million in Business Builder Grants to support small, mid-sized, and diverse food and farm entrepreneurs. These grants will promote business expansion, job creation, business capacity building, and increase local products in the local market. The funding is available for local food projects in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and northwest Arkansas.
Iowa Breaks a Record It Hopes to Never Break Again
The state of Iowa broke a 20-year-old record this year and it's a record that Iowans would be perfectly fine with never breaking again. The worst part about this record-setting year is we're only 2/3rds of the way through 2024. There is still plenty of time for the state of Iowa to add to this total tornado count, which is pretty scary.
FFA Exhibitors Claim State Fair Herding Honors
Large Group and Small Group champions were crowned in the FFA Herding competition at the 2024 Iowa State Fair. In the sheep category, the Large Group Champion was the Keota FFA. The swine category Large Group Champion was also Keota FFA. Chapter Awards were presented with Keota FFA tying for third place, and Mid-Prairie FFA tying for tenth place. The Iowa State Fair is one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country and the single largest event in the state. The Fair began 170 years ago and attracts more than one million Fairgoers every year from all over the world.
