Black bear and cub destroy car in Connecticut after getting trapped inside
In Winsted, Connecticut, an adult black bear and its cub were trapped inside a car, causing significant destruction as they thrashed about, blaring the horn and blasting the radio. A second cub, outside the car, ran around in distress. The vehicle owner called state environmental conservation police, who freed the bears, allowing them to escape unharmed into the woods. The car’s interior, however, was left in ruins. This incident, documented in photos and video by the owner, is part of a series of bear encounters reported by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Recently, a woman in Cheshire was bitten by a bear, and a nearly 500-pound bear was struck and killed by a car in Torrington. The increasing black bear population in Connecticut, now estimated between 1,000 and 1,200, has led to more frequent interactions, including bears breaking into cars, trash bins, and homes. DEEP advises residents to keep car doors locked and avoid providing easy access to food.
