5 Reasons The Green Bay Packers Are Legitimate Super Bowl Contenders

    By Ian Van Roy,

Just a couple of years ago, the Green Bay Packers were an aging franchise. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, two of the team’s most important stars, were closer to the end than the beginning. Now, the team has completely flipped the page.

Jordan Love has complete control and young receivers Christian Watson and Jayden Reed are just now beginning to hit their stride.

Teams have had bright futures before but fallen short, but here’s why the Packers are a solid Super Bowl pick.

    1. Jordan Love set to boom

Love cooked in the oven for three years. Now, the quarterback is set to clinch his hold on the starting job for good.

In his de facto rookie starting season, the quarterback managed to pull a C.J. Stroud and win a playoff game against a much more experienced franchise.

Now, with an offseason to continue to develop, Love is set to take the league by storm.

    2. Reloaded at running back

The Packers didn’t change a ton on offense this offseason, but they did change running backs.

Aaron Jones had trouble staying healthy last year. In his place, the team elected to pick up Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs is only one season removed from putting up more than 1600 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. If he can pull off a similar year in 2024, it should be smooth sailing for Love and the offense.

    3. More experience at wide receiver

Reed took the reins last year as a rookie, but he wasn’t the only receiver that appeared to mature. Romeo Doubs appeared to take a step forward and Watson appears to have worked out his injury trouble. If true, the receiving trio could be more deadly in 2024, setting up the offense beautifully.

    4. Packers on schedule for Super Bowl win

If one forgets everything about the roster, then they can fall back on Green Bay being historically on pace to make a Super Bowl run.

In both Brett Favre and Rodgers’ respective careers, the Packers won their only Super Bowls quickly.

In Rodgers’ case, the team won it all within his first three years as a starter. Favre, before that, reached the conference championship and won the Super Bowl within his first five years with the team.

Put simply, while the Packers would be ahead of the pace with Love, it would not be by much this year.

    5. Matt LaFleur is hungry

While most of the offense is closer to the beginning of their career than the middle of it, Matt LaFleur has been a member of the Packers for quite some time.

Of course, that isn’t to say he’s close to retirement. Rather, he has led the transition away from Rodgers and sniffed the Super Bowl more than once.

At this point, LaFleur is ready to get over the hump.

With a motivated head coach and hungry young players, the Packers could be the team to beat this season. It might take someone that young but hungry to challenge the NFC and Patrick Mahomes in late January and February.
