Zach Tom Named Most Underrated Player on Green Bay Packers

A lot of attention is going to be given to the offensive line of the Green Bay Packers over the next few weeks. It is arguably the biggest positional battle that will ensue in training camp, with Zach Tom being involved.

A fourth-round pick out of Wake Forest in the 2022 NFL Draft, Zach Tom spent the 2023 season at right tackle. There have been rumors that he will kick inside this season, potentially taking over as the starting center.

Earlier this offseason, an analyst made a bold claim about him. They said he is a Pro Bowler playing tackle, with the potential to be an All-Pro at guard and Hall of Famer playing center.

Through two seasons, Zach Tom has already taken snaps at every position along the offensive line. Not only is he arguably the most versatile offensive lineman in the NFL, Lorenzo Reyna of Pro Football Network believes he is one of the most underrated.

Recently, Reyna put together a list highlighting an underrated on each player in the NFL. For the Green Bay Packers, he selected Zach Tom.

“While the Packers have a strong lineage of stout quarterback play, few mention how consistent they are with producing star tackles. Zach Tom is the latest example. He only surrendered two sacks his side in 2023. But it’s his reach blocking, which has cleared significant running room for AJ Dillon, that shows Tom at his best,” Reyna said.

While no starting alignments are set in stone, there are two things that seem certain. Zach Tom and Elgton Jenkins will be starting somewhere along the offensive line.

They are currently the backbone of the unit for Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff. Each is cross-trained and could end up playing somewhere different than they did in 2023.

Jenkins has been taking snaps at center as well during the offseason. Recovering from a labrum injury, we haven’t seen Zach Tom yet, but we know what he is capable of.

It will be interesting to see what decision the Green Bay Packers coaching staff comes to. The five best players are going to get on the field. Who that is, and their alignment, will be decided during training camp.
