    Activities lined up at GC Senior Center

    The Greene County Senior Center, 104 Greenridge Road, recently released events and activities coming up in April and May. All activities are free and at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted. Call 252-747-5436 for more information. Here is what is coming up:

    New Tech Tips and Tutoring Class, 12:30 on Wednesdays. Free WIFI and tablets are available for checkout on site.Workshop on Tax Exclusions for Seniors by the Greene County Tax Office, 11:45 a.m. April 16.Bake Sale for the Senior Center, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 17.Medication Take Back Event sponsored by Recovery NC and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17.Older American’s Month Health, Information & Elder Abuse Awareness Fair, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 16, at the Greene County Wellness Center, 84 N. Perry Drive. The event features door prizes, demonstrations, health screenings and samples. Information will be provided for seniors, family caregivers and anyone seeking more knowledge on services for older sdults in Greene County.Shred A Thon sponsored by the Greene County Senior Center, NC SHIIP, and NC Senior Medicare Public Event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22 at the Senior Center. Protect yourself against identity theft. Shred old tax records, employment records and bank statements. Reduce clutter. Don’t bring cans, bottles, food/wrappers, thick material, copier/printer cartridges, corrugated cardboard, non-recyclable materials, plastics, biohazard materials, medical waste, three-ring notebooks, newspapers, books or magazines.

    Volunteer reception

    A volunteer reception will be held at the Senior Center at 5 p.m. on April 15 for nominees for the Governor’s Awards. Certificates and pins from the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism will be awarded.

    The ceremony is open to the public. Please confirm attendance and number of guests by April 12 to Renate Harper at renate.harper@greenecountync.gov or by phone at 252-747-5436.

    After the Ceremony, recipients will be asked to attend the Greene County Board of Commissioners meeting at 7 p.m. for recognition by the board. Commissioner’s meetings are in the Greene County Operations Center, 312 SE Second St.
