GREENSBORO, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Hale County Hospital in Greensboro will soon receive a major upgrade thanks to funding provided by the federal government.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) presented a check of $1 million to hospital administrators Friday morning.

“I know how hard these rural healthcare professionals work, and they so much with little, and to have the opportunity to present a $1 million check to one of the rural hospitals in my district means so much to me, and I hope it means much more to my constituents,” Sewell said.

The funds will be used to renovate the emergency room and expand the number of exam rooms from five to eight. Hospital administrator Shay Cherry said the hospital was built in 1963, and she is excited to get the funds that can help improve healthcare for patients.

“This is a very awesome day, and we were able to build a new inpatient facility unit in 2005, and the ER has never been renovated,” Cherry said. “We are very excited, and it’s almost unbelievable, and I am so excited. When we received the news when we were approved, it was a great day for Hale County.”

The construction work on the renovations will get underway in three months.
