GREENSBORO — Cleanup for a bat infestation in Town Hall is expected to cost about $12,000 for the town of Greensboro. Town Manager Tammy Kelledes said the town hopes to re-open the building Thursday.

The town initially discovered multiple dead and alive bats in the Town Hall building on July 12. The building has been closed since July 12.

Kelledes said the town’s insurance did not cover cleanup costs. She said removal of the bats cost the town just over $9,000. Duct work and deep cleaning each cost approximately $1,500.

“Since the attic isn’t typically checked, this issue has unfortunately grown,” the town wrote in a Facebook post after finding the bats.

The town added that bat droppings pose risks, necessitating the closure. “It can carry harmful fungi that, when inhaled, can cause histoplasmosis — a respiratory disease that can be severe, especially for those with weakened immune systems,” the town wrote.

While Town Hall is closed, residents can go to Meeting Hall at 111 S Main Street for assistance, which is located across the parking lot from Town Hall.

They can also reach the town by calling 410-482-6222 or emailing greensboro@greensboromd.com.
