Greenville Fire-Rescue authorities say an automotive shop fire near Sadie Saulter Pre-K Center was intentionally set.

One person was transported to ECU Health Medical Center during the Wednesday morning fire.

Bryant Beddard, battalion chief and fire marshal for Greenville Fire-Rescue, said 24 personnel responded to a call that was received about 6 a.m. to Komplete Auto Repair and Body Shop, 308 Spruce St. The area is between Myrtle Street and West 14th Avenue.

The fire department said that smoke and flames were visible from the building when personnel arrived and set to work. The fire was deemed under control within 30 minutes.

Crews were on scene until after 8 a.m. where they continued to douse the building with water. Beddard said that the fire was limited to the automotive shop.

The building’s interior suffered major fire damage, the department said. One person was transported to the hospital with injuries related to the fire and the remains of a dog were found inside the building.

Investigators from Greenville Fire-Rescue, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Greenville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms investigated the scene of the fire and determined it originated in the building's front office. Greenville Fire-Rescue said the fire was caused "by an intentional act" and that further investigation will be handled by Greenville police.

The building is appraised at $99,549 and sits on .35 acres of land valued at $45,738 according to Pitt County tax records.
