A Miracle Hill employee was stabbed in the stomach by a woman evicted from the property, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

According to Lt. Ryan Flood with the GCSO, a violent crime investigator with the GCSO arrested Michelle Silva Perez, 36, for stabbing an employee in the stomach at the Miracle Hill Shepard’s Gate shelter on 11 Regency Drive in Greenville.

Deputies arrived at the shelter at 11 a.m. on Thursday and learned that Perez had become upset after being evicted from the property, according to officials.

Perez caused a disturbance and, during the incident, stabbed a woman with a sharp-edged object.

The woman was transported to Prisma Memorial Hospital, where she received life-saving aid and surgery for her injuries.

According to warrants provided by Flood, deputies used witnesses' statements and video surveillance footage to identify Perez as the person of interest.

Perez could be seen on camera ambushing the victim and forcing them to the ground in a physical altercation, according to warrants. The video shows that the person was stabbed to the extent of their organs being exposed to the outside of their body.

According to Flood, Perez was arrested at the scene without incident.

Miracle Hill released a statement regarding the incident.

"One of our staff members was attacked by a former guest in the parking lot of our women’s emergency shelter in Greenville," according to the statement. "This guest had been disqualified from our program the night before for not following the facility's guidelines.

"The injured staff member received immediate medical care and is currently stable and recuperating."
