Once a restaurant, always a restaurant. At least that’s how it typically goes for real estate. Once an address has been outfitted to handle restaurant operations it makes itself a valuable location for interested restauranteurs. It also becomes a costly renovation for businesses interested in the address but not in need of large kitchens, deep fryers, and other appliances. That is a main reason why the old Jack in the Box restaurant at 3215 North Central Avenue has remained dormant in Central Phoenix, despite its prime location. All of that though is coming to a change, as a new, familiar restaurant has taken over the building.

Señor Taco first opened in San Diego back in the early 1990s. It was a way to give locals the fresh taste of real, authentic Mexican food. At the time though, the restaurant went by the name Cotija’s Mexican Grill. Rey Ruiz, the son of original owner David Ruiz, went on to open the first Señor Taco. Eventually, the fast and friendly Mexican restaurant chain, best known for its shrimp burrito, has spread into Arizona with over a dozen locations around metro Phoenix.

Señor Taco has been looking for an address to move into right in the heart of Pheonix, and with the open space vacated by the failed Jack in the Box, it became a prime destination. Surrounded by apartment buildings and office space to the sides, it should prove to be a popular destination for anyone hungry for tacos and burritos.

Much like the other locations around Arizona, Señor Taco will continue its weekly specials, which include Taco Tuesday and Baja Wednesday.

If you haven’t stopped by a Señor Taco in the past, there are all kinds of burrito options, including carnitas, California Surfin’ (carna asada, shrimp, fries, poco, cheese, guac, and a house chipotle sauce), shrimp, shrimp chipotle, diablo shrimp, fish, grilled chicken, and others. All of the burritos can be deep fried in a chimichanga style or served up in an enchilada style if desired.

The menu also features chips and fries, tostadas and enchiladas, tacos, protein bowls, quesadillas, breakfast burritos, seafood, birria, and other goodies. It is important to point out, that while a drive-through is available, only dine-in burritos will be sprinkled with cotija cheese. So if you want that extra cheese, make sure to pop in.

There is no word yet as to what the hours of operation will be for the 3215 Central Avenue location will be. However, it currently plans to be fully operational and open to the public by June 10.
