A new elevated dive restaurant and tavern is coming to Scottsdale this upcoming Labor Day. Now, “elevated” often means “expensive” in disguise (and when in Old Town a hefty price tag is never far away), but we’ll have to wait and see on that one. Instead, the new destination looks to offer classic, dive-bar goodies with contemporary options. So, whether you’re a fan of relaxed, over-stuffed booths in a well-worn establishment while sipping down a High Life, or you enjoy an extra dirty martini while out on a date, the new destination promises to be both.

Mother Trucker’s Tavern is very quickly building up a lot of intrigue with what exactly it will offer. An elevated dive bar is, to be sure, an interesting concept. Whether this wider-net method of bringing in patrons will work or will fail to bring in either the elevated restaurant seeker as well as the dive bar lovers, is very much up in the air, but you can’t fault the owners for trying something new. Besides, there are times when a combination of the two restaurant and bar designs has its advantages.

The new tavern, located at 4420 North Saddlebag Trail (Suite 100) will be replacing Bevvy, an establishment previously owned by Evening Entertainment Group, which is also behind Mother Trucker’s Tavern. We are seeing more of this around the Valley, with investment groups holding an extra short leash on eateries. At the first sign of any kind of trouble they pull the plug, close it up, and open up something new. This does take away some of the “labor of love” many locally owned businesses maintain, as the owners pump in everything they have, and often the restaurants are a testament to their passion (and often include hand-me-down recipes). These kinds of investment restaurants are geared toward cashing in on a theme rather than what it offers.

This is also another reason why the menu hasn’t been released. It is very much still in the works. Much like major movie studios announcing an upcoming movie before there’s even a finished script (or director attached), an investment restaurant comes up with a theme and then fills in the gaps along the way.

With all of that said the restaurant may very well flex its muscles and generate a sustainable buzz. What might help is that Mother Trucker’s Tavern will be a University of Michigan watch bar on game days, so for any Midwestern transplants searching for a spot to catch the upcoming season opener for the national champions against Fresno State, this location might be the place.
