    Update: Friday, 10 a.m.

GROOM, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of Public Safety released further information on a wreck that killed two people on I-40 north of Groom on Thursday morning.

According to DPS, a 2021 International driven by a 38-year-old Las Vegas man and one other passenger was traveling eastbound on I-40 north of Groom at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

However, “for an unknown reason” the truck “failed to drive in a single lane” and left the roadway, traveling partly into the center median and striking the northside guardrail, flattening all three tires on its left side. The truck then traveled across both eastbound lanes and hit the guardrail on the south side, according to DPS, and turned onto its left side before landing on the concrete bridge railing. The truck came to a stop on its top while partly hanging off the bridge, with the roof of its cab crushed.

Both the 38-year-old driver and the unidentified passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The crash, said DPS, is still under investigation.
