Thanks to grants from RC&D, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and The National FFA Organization and help from several volunteers, we now have a new greenhouse and outdoor learning area. The new “DHS Conservation Lab” will provide hands-on horticultural learning opportunities for the students at Douglas High School that produce marketable workforce skills for the horticulture industry.

Hollywood Police uncover an active meth lab
On Wednesday, June 19th, the Hollywood Police Department, with the assistance of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant on Co Rd 42. During the search, an active meth lab was uncovered. Investigators found 4.93 grams of cocaine mixed with fentanyl, 11.33 grams of meth mixed with fentanyl, marijuana, illegal possession of prescription drugs, and a large amount of drug paraphernalia.

Albertville City schools got to host STEM summer migrant camps for 122 migrant students in June. The migrant camp was held from June 3 to June 27. The camp was among the largest of its kind ever in Alabama. The STEM camp provided students with a variety of different skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The learning activities that the kids participated in helped them with critical thinking, creativity, communication, and problem solving.
