    1. In 1866, President Andrew Johnson signed the first Homestead Act, granting settlers 160 acres of public land in the West, including Wyoming. This act opened the door for many Americans to migrate to the region and start new lives.

    2. In 1894, the town of Cody, Wyoming was officially incorporated. The town, founded by legendary cowboy and showman Buffalo Bill Cody, was established as a hub for tourism and entertainment in the state.

    3. On August 22, 1913, a group of 16 women formed the Wyoming State League of Women's Suffrage. This organization was a major force in the fight for women's right to vote, which Wyoming had granted in 1869, making it the first state to do so.

    4. In 1949, a devastating earthquake struck the town of Dubois, Wyoming, causing widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure. The earthquake, which measured 7.3 on the Richter scale, remains one of the most significant natural disasters in the state's history.

    5. On August 22, 1968, the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins experienced a major riot. The disturbance, which was caused by overcrowding and poor conditions within the prison, lasted for several days and resulted in extensive damage to the facility. The riot prompted significant changes to Wyoming's prison system, including the construction of a new state penitentiary.

Author's Note: In a world where uncertainty and division run amok, maybe it’s time to look back at the old days when things were simpler and life focused around the family and community, doing the right thing and believing in ourseles. We need to accept the fact that although there are blemishes in our history, it is still our history. If we are honest and teach our true history to our youth, (without any form of political or social agenda), pointing out the rights and wrongs while being historically correct, then we will give the next generation a “leg up in the saddle.” With that being said, if we deny them the absolute truth, we damn them to repeat history over again, and the cycle continues.

    Life is hard, cowboy up!
