The Salina City Commission held a public hearing at its regular meeting yesterday, July 23 to decide whether to list the Ambassador Hotel as a dangerous structure. The seemingly abandoned 192-room hotel, located at 1616 W. Crawford Street in Salina, has been owned by various chains since it opened in the 1980s under its first name, "The Holiday Inn Holidome." Later the hotel was rebranded as a Ramada before it was named "The Ambassador."
Smoky Hill River Renewal Project Set to Revitalize Salina with $21.3M in Funding and New Development Plans
The Smoky Hill River might soon flow more freely through Salina, as officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Salina signed a cost-share agreement for the proposed Smoky Hill River renewal project. U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran announced an additional $400,000 in federal funding to assist with the city’s cost for a project design draft from USACE. City documents indicate $13.7 million will come from federal sources, supplemented by $7.6 million from a citywide sales tax. Salina previously secured $22 million in federal grants for river improvements, including bridge replacements and revamped boat docks.

Walk-In Enrollment, Back to School Fair Tuesday
Walk-in enrollment at Salina Public Schools is scheduled for this week, along with the Saline County Back to School Fair. While online enrollment has been going on for a couple of weeks, those who would prefer to enroll in person can do so on Tuesday. Walk-in enrollment will be located at Central High School, 650 E.
