Sparta Board of Education Amends Attendance Policy
SPARTA, NJ – The board of education is moving to update the attendance policy to reflect recent changes in state statute. Policy 5200 “Attendance" is being amended to change the definition of an “excused absence.” The student must provide a “doctor’s note” or one from the dentist, proving there was an appointment for the absence to be excused. Local shows off community decluttering program aimed at giving away items: 'It's nice to get and give free stuff'
One resident in Warwick, New York, posted photos of their community's recent swap event where members could give away and pick up gently used items for free. The Redditor shared the pictures from the event in the r/ZeroWaste subreddit with the caption, "Too Good to Toss donation day." At this annual event, members of the community can drop off items they no longer need and then return the next day to pick out anything they could use — and it's all free.

The Village of Warwick Department of Public Works earned second place in the New York State LTAP Center — Cornell Local Roads Program 2024 Build A Better Mousetrap Competition for its development of “The Fin-isher,” an innovative tool that allows for efficient and effective replacement of a broken curve box rod with minimal soil disturbance. The contraption, which replaces the need for digging large holes with an excavator by using a vac truck to create a smaller, more precise hole, also impressed other DPW supervisors, who honored the entry with first place in the People’s Choice Award.
