How a sand-sculpting festival is reviving Revere
For three days, sculptures made of golden-brown sand transform Revere Beach into a fleeting art gallery. Melineige Beauregard competed as an artist in the Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival for almost a decade. Now she is part of the group Broken Glass, which coordinates the sculpting contest. Standing near a sculpture of a giant birthday cake covered in candles and festooned with ribbons, she reflected on the event’s impact.

From North of The Border
Canadian Brass brought what will probably the most toe tappers ever per show to the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, combining classical and popular rep with their signature hammy aesthetic. Overheard attendees opined: “This is a fun concert” both at intermission and after its conclusion. Those packed into the Shalin Liu Performance Center on last Tuesday knew it would be different from the beginning when the soft shuffle of tuba and trombone came rolling out from the lobby. Presently the whole band was processing from the rear of the hall to the stage—jazz funeral style—while playing a cool rendition of “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”…pun probably intended. Once on stage, they launched into a hot jazz variation of the same tune, complete with both musical and actual sparks. Lead trumpeter Joe Burgstaller explained they always like to start with an encore, just in case they don’t get to it later (though that would not be a problem for them on that night).
