    One killed in Handley head-on crash, road reopened

    UPDATE: (9:37 P.M. July 29) – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased victim of a crash in Handley Monday evening.

    David McCallister, 59, of Belle died at the scene of the crash.

    The KCSO release says that a sedan, driven by McCallister, was travelling eastbound when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane before striking the guardrail face, then did so again, this time resulting in a head-on collision with an SUV. The driver of the SUV was transported with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

    Deputies are still investigating the incident.


    UPDATE: (9:16 P.M. July 29) – MacCorkle Avenue SE, also known as Route 61, between Handley and Montgomery has reopened after a crash in Handley Monday evening, according to Metro 911 dispatchers.


    UPDATE: (6:52 P.M. July 29) – One person has died and another has been taken to the hospital after a crash in Handley.

    According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office two people were involved in the crash along MacCorkle Avenue SE, also known as Route 61, near Upper Drive. Deputies say the person taken to the hospital has serious injuries.

    The person who was killed in the crash died at the scene, according to the KCSO. Neither person’s identity has been released.

    According to the KCSO, the roadway will be closed indefinitely while investigators work to determine what caused the crash.

    Deputies are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible and to use alternate routes to avoid delays.


    UPDATE: (6:05 P.M. July 29) – One person has died in a crash in the Handley area, according to Metro 911.

    Dispatchers say the roadway will remain shut down for an extended period of time.


    KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – An eastern Kanawha County roadway is shut down due to a vehicle crash.

    According to Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers, the crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday on MacCorkle Avenue SE at Upper Drive in Handley. Dispatchers say two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

    While there is no word yet if anyone was injured, dispatchers say crews have confirmed one person is trapped in one of the vehicles.

    MacCorkle Avenue SE is shut down at the scene of the crash. Dispatchers say they do not know when it will reopen.

    The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with assistance from the Handley Police Department. The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and the Handley, Pratt and Montgomery volunteer fire departments are responding.
